We US Citizens ask Anthony Babauta, Assistant Secretary for Insular Affairs, to help the people of the Virgin Islands, by funding and working together with citizens, local government and the other federal agencies, to get our utilities to uphold the law, stop polluting, be financially responsible and be energy efficient. We need recycling, composting and appropriate landfills. We need our electrical rates to be no more than twice the national average. We would like our pilot project for renewable energy to be successful. Please help us to achieve these goals.

I am appalled to read about the dumping of raw sewage into the ocean. When we lived in Thailand, raw sewage would actually float into the swimming areas when the currents moved in a certain direction. It was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in my life. Needless to say, we moved away right away. We came to a US territory thinking that US standards of cleanliness would apply. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I hope that those in power will do something pretty quickly, otherwise the tourist/retirement industry will suffer even more than it has already. We were thinking of purchasing a house here, but will not unless this situation is rectified. I’m sure that others feel the same way. Susan, thank you so much for advocating for cleaner waters. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
